- Osceola students did their part in a big way when it comes to reading over the summer. In an effort to build a consistent, year-round culture of reading throughout Osceola's school community, Superintendent Melba Luciano challenged students to read 26 million minutes over this past summer and log their minutes in as part of Scholastic’s Summer Reading Challenge, which started in May 2015. Osceola students came extremely close to meeting the goal by reading more than 25.6 million minutes.
Two Osceola schools ranked among the Top 20 schools in the 2015 Scholastic Summer Challenge for reading minutes:
--Boggy Creek Elementary -- 14,844,153 minutes read - Ranked #3 in the world
--Flora Ridge Elementary -- 2,300,326 minutes read - Ranked #10 in the world
Ten additional Osceola schools also made the Top 100 schools list in the number of minutes read:
--St. Cloud Elementary -- Ranked #38 in the world
--Lakeview Elementary -- Ranked #41 in the world
"This is an incredible accomplishment for our students," said Superintendent Melba Luciano. "In 2013, our students read 12 million minutes over the summer, and now we are up to 25 million minutes in the summer of 2015. As we raise our expectations, our Osceola students continue to shine."
