The School District of Osceola County, Florida and the Education Foundation of Osceola County have joined forces with Osceola County, the City of Kissimmee, and the City of St. Cloud, to launch Osceola Reads with Footsteps2Brillance®, a five-year reading strategy aimed at increasing the percentage of children who are literate in Osceola County.
Aiming to reach young minds before they start kindergarten, and continuing to develop with them, Osceola Reads with Footsteps2Brillance® ensures that local children have the tools necessary to learn to read. Currently, less than 20% of children in Osceola County are academically prepared for the first day of elementary school.
Footsteps2Brilliance® is a revolutionary preK through 3rd grade literacy solution that uses mobile technology. Its innovative Mobile Technology Platform allows literacy apps to be accessed online or offline from any mobile device or traditional computer. The interactive app digitally links home, school, and the community. Every child in Osceola County will have access to this tool.
“What’s truly exceptional about this initiative is how everyone is working together,” says Superintendent Melba Luciano. “It’s not just the School District or the Education Foundation, the entire county is working together to ensure that our children have the literacy skills needed to enter kindergarten. Literacy is the key to learning. Footsteps2Brillance® will allow for all of our Osceola County early learners, from cradle and beyond, to develop the skills and self-confidence they need to succeed in kindergarten.”
Osceola Reads formally launches in February 2016. However, Osceola County parents whose children do not currently attend public school can sign up at www.OsceolaReads.com.
