GRADUATION CEREMONY

Tickets: Everyone older than 2 years will need a ticket to attend the ceremony. Each student will be provided with 10 tickets.

Student Arrival: All seniors are expected to arrive at the Silver Spurs Arena no later than 12:00 PM. They will enter through the EAST entrance, which will be marked by signage. Students will go through a metal detector, and per the request of Superintendent Dr. Mark Shanoff, all cell phones not left in cars or with parents will be collected and held until after the ceremony by a Poinciana High School faculty member.

Cell Phones: If your cell phone is collected, it may be picked up in front of the arena. Any phones not picked up within 20 minutes after the ceremony may be retrieved at Poinciana High School the following day. Poinciana High School recommends that students leave their phones with a family member or secured in their vehicle.

Guest Arrival: The Silver Spurs Arena doors will open to the public one hour before the event. Spectators should enter through the main entrance (lower lobby). Parents and guests are not permitted on the main floor before or during the ceremony. Professional photographers will be present, and purchasing photos is optional. Seating for disabled guests is available—enter through the main lobby and see the nearest usher. Only one person may accompany a disabled guest.

Ceremony: The ceremony will begin promptly at 1:30 PM and will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. After the ceremony, meet your graduate in the parking lot directly in front of the arena. Graduates exit immediately into the parking lot. Please arrange a meeting place away from the exit doors.

Appropriate Attire: No flowers on gowns and no cell phones, bags, or purses may be brought into the arena. Males should wear dress slacks, a collared shirt, and dress shoes. Females should wear a dress, blouse with skirt, or dress pants with dress shoes. Female students should not wear high heels—flats, sandals, or wedges only. All necklaces and chains must be worn inside the gown. Visible chains must be removed or adjusted. No gum, sunglasses, unauthorized cords or stoles, or headphones/earbuds are allowed.

Cap and Gown: Cap and gown are required. Please iron your gown on low heat. Students who have not purchased a cap and gown must order one at www.herfforlando.com. All students must purchase a new unit; previously purchased gowns may not be used.

Medals, Stoles & Cords: Students may wear only stoles, cords, or medals issued by Poinciana High School. Others will be collected at the door and returned after the ceremony.

Cap Decorations: Students may decorate their caps this year but must follow these guidelines: 1. Decorations must be flat—no 3D items. 2. No lights or moving parts. 3. Must be school appropriate. 4. Must be approved by Mr. Schwartz. Unapproved caps must be replaced with a new one for $20.

Cap Decoration Approval Process: Please see the approval process below.

1. Initial design drawing is due by April 21st, platform TBD 2. If approved, please present the final design to Mr. Schwartz by May 14th
